Community Development starts with You

Experience Phanmaggi

Phanmaggi is a registered non-governmental organization in the Gambia, working for enhanced access to quality education and strengthened rural communities, in order to fight poverty. Phanmaggi wants to spread our message of hope and compassion. We believe that a single action can make a difference in the community, and that collective action can greatly impact the world. Through advocacy and outreach activities, we work tirelessly with communities each day to contribute their part to the greater good. We are advocates and partners in sustainable development, especially among the rural poor. This helps stem rural-urban migration and keep rural communities intact.

Making A Difference

Phanmaggi is in the business of changing and shaping lives. The work we do at our nonprofit Organization is aimed at providing a holistic approach to solving some of our society’s biggest challenges; food self-sufficiency... We make sure our partners are empowered by creating opportunities for individuals and communities to feed themselves with ease and improve their living standards in the process.

Community Garden Development

Phanmaggi has over the years help the community of Ceesay Kunda Kabilo with three separate vegetable gardens. Proceeds from the harvests from these gardens go directly to the people working in the field. This helps them provide food, clothing, shelter and pay for quality education for their children. Sustainable development requires constant upkeep of these gardens. To this end, a yearly maintenance fee is charged for the use of the gardens.

Tractor and Plough

We provided the Ceesay Kunda Kabilo with a Massey Ferguson tractor with trailer and plow. This is loaned out to the community members to plow their field, transport produce and building materials. The proceeds from these rentals are used to maintain the equipment and used in starting other community projects such as fencing vegetable gardens.

Re-forestration Project

Saba is located in the Sahel region. The community is susceptible to hazards of deforestation. Phanmaggi partnered with the Ceesay Kunda Kabilo to plant 2000 trees in the periphery of the community, to help fight and reduce the soil degradation and other effects of deforestation.

Rice Milling machine

With this initiative, our goal is to promote great opportunities for those in need. With access to the right resources, people can become empowered by their own abilities and gain the confidence to fulfill their potential. Women in rural communities do a lot of labor-intensive, menial, and repetitive work. A milling machine helps mechanize what used to be a labor-intense portion of preparing meals daily. Instead of pounding with pestle and mortar, women get to reserve their energy for other physical work they engage in during the day.

Scholarships

With our organization’s mission always in mind, we strive to help needy and deserving students who excel in the STEM field pursue undergraduate programs at the University of the Gambia. Electricity Project

Energy plays a major role in any development initiative. With the electrification project, our goal is to provide access to energy for those in need. With access to the right resources, people can become empowered by their own abilities and gain the confidence to fulfill their potential. With electricity, folks can utilize cold storage for goods that will otherwise rot before they reach the market. The project cost 500,000 Gambian dalasis.

Fertlizer Chamber

With our organization’s mission always in mind, we strive to find new strategies for dealing with challenges. Organic food cultivation is something that we take very seriously, and our team is working with the good folks at Engineers Without Borders [Karlsruhe - Germany] to make a positive impact in this realm. With the technical and financial backing of EWB, a fertilizer chamber is built to produce organic fertilizer for crop and vegetable growth in the community that Phanmaggi serve and beyond. The community will spread the expertise to other communities to wean them off artificial chemical fertilizers that are neither good for the environment nor health of consumers.

Covid-19 Food Drive

Food insecurity is a development impediment. Add to that a global pandemic and its effect on supply chains especially food supply, hunger gets introduced into the mix in a jiffy. To ameliorate this outcome, Phanmaggi diaspora embarked on a fundraising drive last week. Our Covid-19 food drive was a success. Members in the diaspora were able to raise funds to buy 70 bags of rice and 30 bags of sugar for our community partners in Badibu Saba. The rice and sugar were distributed earlier today to members of the community. We thank all those who contributed to this fundraiser in cash or kind. May God reward you abundantly.

Project Gamjiyo

Project Gamjiyo in 2 minutes. It shows a contrast of what the women had to deal with fetching water from holes dug in the ground in the beginning to the borehole supplied reservoirs installed during the project. A Phanmaggi - Engineers Without Borders collaboration. Know me, Care for me, ease my way.
